The admixture was administered to Arthur, former Minister of Affairs in Exeter, where, after April ministers were measured for merit. Arthur, an astoundingly incompetent bureaucrat, a bungler of the first order, was made, in May, to surrender his seat and suck hemlock. Hemlock a caustic concoction, Arthur asked for an adjuvant to aid the terrible taste. His adjutant sprinkled in some sugar. Thus do we a good government make: sinister ministers are suppressed, ignorance is extinguished, and the petty are poisoned politely.
