Adultery

Shane is a man’s name but Shane’s mother didn’t know that. It’s the story Shane likes to tell, and then she’ll tell another about how she’s more man than woman, how all her friends are men, how she drinks like a man and thinks like a man and gives in like a man. I always tell Shane, you don’t need the lines. Men’ll go down the path you lead them. Men like to follow a lot more than men like to talk.

But for Shane, for many a woman, how she gets herself in the positions she gets herself in is the exciting part.

If Shane had a husband she’d be an adulteress.

If Shane had a god she’d be a heretic.

If Shane had a heart she’d have stolen it.

If Shane had a price she’d be free.
